HiYa Pals!
This past January my family and I were lucky enough to stay at the Grand Floridian in a 2-bedroom Villa for 2 nights!
In this blog I will talk about our stay, how it went, what we did and our thoughts! Keep reading to find out if this is a resort you may want to try one day!
It is Grand for a Reason
Before diving into the stay, I want to give a quick little overview of the Grand Floridian for those of you who may not know much about it!
The Grand is one of Disney’s Deluxe resorts. It is one of four resorts closest to Magic Kingdom. It is one of three resorts on the Magic Kingdom Monorail loop, which makes getting to Magic Kingdom a wonderful experience.
Being it is a Deluxe resort; the Grand Floridian is on the most expensive teer for pricing. However, in my opinion if you can save up to stay for any amount of time, whether it be one night or the entirety of your stay, I feel it is worth it.
The Grand Floridian was designed to meet a classic elegance with hints of theming to Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland. The main lobby is grand, almost royal, covered in marble, and makes you feel like you are walking in the lap of luxury.
They offer everything from a beautiful spa to fantastic dining. As far as rooms go, they offer a standard room to 3-bedroom villas. Offering standard views to lake view rooms. There are two pools and a splash pad themed to the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland. It is a beautiful place.
2 Bedroom Villa
The Grand Floridian is divided into several different buildings. The building we were lucky enough to stay in is part of the DVC (Disney vacation club) building. Here in this building is where the villas are located. There is another DVC building housing studios!
One thing we were not expecting but thrilled to realize, is we could pull up to the main entrance of our building and utilize the luggage carts. Wahoo! Having those made unloading 9 people a much smoother experience.
We checked in, got our room number and off we went to find the elevator!
Finding our room
Up we went to the 5th floor and to the right! We found our room and unlocked our door with the MDE app! Magic! The anticipation was building, and we were all giddy with excitement.
O my! We all kept saying over and over! O MY! WOW! Holy cow! This villa is amazing. We were not sure what to expect but it did not disappoint.
Villa Floor Plan
Walking in you enter a cute little foyer leading straight, right or left. Straight ahead you enter the full-sized kitchen with full appliances. And just beyond the kitchen is the main living space. The floors are beautiful, the rug was lush and vibrant, and the space is perfect. Best part of our room is the view. We did not know what we would be looking at and to our surprise, we had a gorgeous view.
In the main living space is a pull-down queen-sized murphy bed and a single sleeper bed hidden under the TV.
Bedroom 2
To the right upon entry, you walk into a second bedroom. In this room is a gorgeous bathroom with a rain head shower. There are two queen sized beds, a table and two chairs, a very large television and door leading to the balcony!
Master Bedroom
After entering and going left you find yourself in the master bedroom. The space in this room is amazing! In here you will find a King-sized bed, a massive walk-in closet and a bathroom beyond amazing! This bathroom has the largest shower I have ever seen and a full bathtub that bubbles! There was even a tv in the mirror! What?!
To be honest, I was nervous it was going to be a tight fit for all 9 of us. I didn’t want us to be cramped or feel like we couldn’t be comfortable around each other or escape if needed. However, this villa has ample space for all of us. If we didn’t want to be together in the main living space the bedrooms were large enough that it was no problem.
The kitchen is stalked with everything you could possibly want. Everything from a full set of silverware to cooking utensils. A full coffee pot and Kureg, dishwasher, pots and pans, and a blender! Everything! Only thing you need to provide are the groceries.
The decor was beautiful. It was Disney in a not so in your face, over the top way. There were small nods to Mary Poppins in the art, and not just in the room. Beautiful artwork is all over the resort making you feel like you are stepping back in time.
What We Did
Since we were only there for two nights, we wanted to utilize the room as much as possible. And maybe get our money’s worth! Once we checked in and found the villa, we stayed, unpacked and enjoyed the room until we had dinner reservations that evening. Want to know a little more on places to eat at the Grand? Time well spent.
Spending extra time in the room the next morning was a must before we rode the resort monorail over to the Contemporary for brunch at Chef Mickeys. We made sure to take our sweet time the morning of checkout, one to enjoy the room, and two because we didn’t want to leave!
We took a walk around the grounds and explored the resort. I did some shopping, the kids played in the sand on the beach in front of the villa, found the wedding pavilion and simply enjoyed the Disney magic.
Final Thoughts
I know the Grand Floridian is on the bucket list for a lot of people. I know I am forever grateful I was able to stay for a few nights with my family!
If you can find a way to make a stay at the Grand Floridian happen, I highly recommend doing it! I know a lot of people will say “it’s just a hotel” or “you spend most of your time in the parks, don’t waste your money”. And both of those things are true, however there is something special about that place.
Disney in itself is an escape from the real world but the Grand Floridian elevates that escape to another level. In my opinion. It was a dream and I hope you get to enjoy it one day too!
