A quick stay and review of All-Star Sports

Hi Friends!

Recently we returned from a delightful trip to the most magical place. We happily had the opportunity to stay at Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort for a few days. So, keep reading to find out what we thought! Maybe this is a place for you to stay!

Resort Grounds

The All-Star Resorts are the cheapest of the Disney Resorts. There are three All-Star resorts, they are Sports, Music, and Movies.

These three resorts are all located right next to each other and are considered to be part of the Animal Kingdom area of Disney grounds.

All-Star Sports is the first of the three resorts, located closest to the main road. It is a quick bus drive to Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom, Epcot, Disney Springs and both of the water parks! The furthest park and longest drive was to Magic Kingdom. But even that was not bad. Keep in mind the only transportation at the resort are the busses.

The resort itself is quite small compared to others on Disney property. Definitely smaller than POP Century, Art of Animation and moderate Resorts.

This is a big plus when you are coming back from the parks at the end of the day. Even if you do not stay in a preferred room, the walk to your room is a lot closer than most.

The lobby, gift shop, arcade, and food court are all located in the main building.

There are cast members everywhere for assistance. We waited maybe two minutes to talk to someone. Everyone was happy, eager to help and easy to talk to.

Directly behind the main building is the big pool. There are two pools on all-star sports grounds. The second pool is a bit quieter but equally as fun as the main pool.

Theming

As you can probably guess, the All-Star resort is themed to different sports. Every room area represents a different sport. There is surfing, football, basketball, hockey, and tennis. While some might not think this is a very “disney”ish resort, if you or your kids like sports, this is definitely a fun theme to be submersed in.

In the football area, is an actual huge turrfed football field. There were kid and adults playing on it all the time. I came back from the parks one night and there was a full-fledged football game taking place. It was super cute to see.

The second pool is located in the baseball area. In true Disney fashion the pool is shaped like a baseball field. There are bleachers, locker rooms and more.

The tennis area has a fun court with some familiar faces attempting to play a game.

I think my favorite themed area of the resort was the surfing area. Located here is the main pool, the sidewalks are made to look like a boardwalk, and there are giant surf boards everywhere. I thought it was really cool.

The room

Yay! It’s time to find your room!

Disney will text you, email you, or both to let you know when your room is available. The buildings here are three floors. There are elevators! If you are not comfortable with a room on the second or third floor, you can request a ground room. it is not a guarantee, but Disney does its best to fulfil those requests. If you are using a travel agent, I would let them know so they can get the request in for you. Check out Erica for your Disney traveling needs!

The rooms themselves are fairly basic, but they are cute and get the job done. There is one standard queen bed, a queen-sized murphy bed, a beverage cooler with a small coffee maker, and a nice sized bathroom.

If you have ever stayed at POP Century, they are almost identical to those. However, I do believe POP is currently going under room refurbishments.

The rooms sleep 4.

When planning your trip and deciding what kind of resort you want to stay at, if you are looking for a spacious room, this is not for you. These rooms are perfect if you are only going to be in the room for sleeping. It’s a tight fit.

Pros and Cons

I am so glad I had the chance to stay All-Star Sports. This resort is very cute, and everyone was happy to be there. However now have stayed here I can give you some things to consider when deciding where to stay.

Let’s start with the Cons.

*The food court. It is on the smaller side, and the offerings were not as abundant as I was expecting. Don’t worry, everyone will be fed, but compared to other resorts I have been to, this was on the smaller side.

*Bus transportation. I don’t know if it was just luck of the draw, but on this trip the busses were an issue when it came to getting back to the resort. Getting to parks and other locations was not a problem, but boy was it a doozy getting back to the resort.

*Room Size. Don’t get me wrong, if you are going to Disney strictly to be in the parks this is great. However, if you have more than two to three people staying in these rooms be prepared to feel a little crowded. For some people and families this is absolutely not an issue. But if you like your space it’s going to be tight.

It was just me and my mom on this trip, and the two of us were just fine. Again, not a big con, but I wanted to mention it in case.

The PROs!

*The price. All-Star Sports is the cheapest of the “cheap” resorts on Disney property.

*It was clean and well kept!

*The size of the resort. Like I mentioned before, we really enjoyed the layout and size of the resort. Everything is close and condensed. Even the standard rooms here are a quick walk to the main building and busses.

*The Theming. If sports is your thing, it’s worth a stay! Kids will love it!

*Pools! The two pools here are super cute. And I never saw them packed. Full yes, but not uncomfortably so.

*Drinking station in the cafeteria. Its open 24 hours. If you get a resort mug, definitely an added bonus. They have sodas, teas, flavored waters, hot chocolate, coffee, and water.

*The playground. Every Disney resort has a playground. If it’s your arrival day, departure day or any day in between, and your littles need to get some energy out, this is such a perfect way to do it!

*Cast members! All the people working at Disney work so stinking hard. They are constantly busy, always have a smile on their face, and go above and beyond making your trip amazing. We always try and leave a cast complement whenever we can. You can do that on your MDE!

Staying at All-Star Sports was definitely one for the books. Would it be on the top of my list, probably not. But we loved our stay and would definitely recommend staying here, especially for the price.

We hope you enjoyed our quick stay and review of all star sports! Let us know in the comments if you have ever stayed here and what you thought!
