Dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe!

HiYa Pals!

At Disney’s Wilderness Lodge you can find a geyser shooting off every hour, pathways leading to beautiful locations, a giant fireplace with comfy rocking chairs and a handful of different restaurants. Want to learn a little more about staying at Wilderness Lodge check out this blog! In the main lobby towards the pool is Storybook Dining at Artist Point where you can dine with Snow White, Grumpy, Dopy and the Evil Queen.

While it is a dream to dine there, we enjoyed dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe! Let me tell you about it!

Entry to Restaurant

Location

As you enter Wilderness Lodge from the main entrance to the left is a large sign reading Whispering Canyon Cafe! The restaurant is up a few stairs and open to the main lobby. If you or someone you know has a challenging time with stairs, is in wheelchair or scooter fear not, a little to the side of the stairs is a ramped walkway giving easy access to the restaurant.

Atop the stairs is the front desk. Here you will check in and be taken to your table. If you need help making reservations Erica can help you get that done! Reach out to her here!

Atmosphere

Whispering Canyon Cafe probably isn’t quite what you would call a relaxing dining experience. What I mean by this is the staff is encouraged to be silly with each other and guests. For example, after being seated our waitress brought our drinks over to us and tossed our napkins and straws on the table. It was a lot of fun and made for a good laugh. While at other tables, staff members had guests yell for ketchup, like yell across the restaurant! It was hilarious. Just silly things along those lines.

Don’t be afraid and let this keep you from enjoying the rest of the experience there. If you are not really into all the silliness staff will back off and let you have a less rowdy time. It is a lot of fun.

Inside the dining area

The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated to a western mountainy theme. There is metal and brass decor all throughout. Tables and chairs fit right into the theme and are made of wood giving a rustic vibe. It is a very enjoyable place, gives a cozy homey feeling.

The Food

Alright let’s get into it! Yall, I don’t know what it is about this place but have mercy. The menu had a good variety of offerings. They have salads, steak, sea food, chicken and more. You can see their menu on the MDE. The offerings all looked so delicious, however my mom and I wound up ordering the same thing.

We ordered the traditional skillet. I don’t know what I was expecting or thinking but if you like good smoked meat this is the dinner for you. The meal came with a side of sauces, but it didn’t need it. Or at least we enjoyed it without it! The traditional skillet has chicken, pulled pork, sausage, ribs, brisket, potatoes, corn, and green beans. Dinner also comes with a side of corn bread.

The Traditional Skillet

Ok, for real, might have been the best pulled pork and chicken I have ever had the pleasure of eating. It was mouthwatering. The cornbread was moist and came with butter. It was all fantastic. Drinks are served in mason jars. I had lemonade and my mom had sweet tea. They have all your traditional beverages plus an adult menu with some yummy looking alcoholic selections.

Allergies

I have a sensitivity to diary. My mom does not.I mentioned my allergie the waitress and she was awesome. She brought me an entire meal diary free. I was the same thing, but I had diary free butter, dairy free cornbread and instead of mashed potatoes I had smashed potatoes. I could not have asked for anything better. Disney is wonderfully aware of those with allergies. It’s great to be taken care of like that.

The portion size is massive. Honestly one skillet would have fed us both just fine. Since it was our first-time dining there, we didn’t know what to expect but I’m here to tell you, you won’t leave hungry. We left stuffed and happy. Thank goodness we didn’t get dessert; I had no more room. Needless to say, it was a very enjoyable dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Pricing for Dinner

Now let’s talk how expensive it was. Whispering Canyon Cafe does not have character dining. Therefor the price is a little more reasonable. Don’t get me wrong and its Disney and not cheap. But you get your money’s worth with the amount of food you get.

The view from our table

The skillets on the dinner menu are $38 dollars a person. There are other skillet options for the same price and other main dish dinners for a few dollars less. For my mom and I after tax and tip we were right around $100 for our dinner. Again, it’s not cheap although not the most expensive place to dine at Disney.

Should you go?

If you are a fan of barbeque and smoked meats I would say, absolutely give it a try. I truthfully have nothing bad to say about our experience and time at Whispering Canyon Cafe. The food was bountiful and delicious. The atmosphere was fun, the service was wonderful, and we left happy! I want to go again!

This would be a great spot to check out if you have an off day from the parks or even want to get out of the parks for a few hours. It’s a nice boat ride from Magic Kingdom. Hop over to to an enjoyable dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe.
