HiYa Pals!
I know, I know it’s been around for a while now. It’s taken a few trips to have the time and schedule to make it happen. However, I was finally able to take a ride on Guardians of the Galaxy!
Keep reading to find out how it went and what I thought!
How to get in the que for the ride.
Guardians of the Galaxy is Disney’s newest rollercoaster! It is located in Epcot next to the rides Mission Space and Test Track. If you are looking for an overview of Epcot, check out this blog here!
Since it is the newest ride Disney anticipated this being in high demand and set up a virtual que. Meaning you sign up to ride via MDE (check out what MDE is here) and when your time comes you can get in the actual physical line.
If you are a guest staying at a Disney resort, at 7am of the day you are at Epcot you may go onto your MDE and join the virtual que. On the home page of your MDE there is a section for joining a virtual que. Make sure to click the correct ride. Right now, there are two rides with virtual ques, Guardians and Tron.
Be sure to have your MDE open and have your party selected and ready. At 7am, as close as you can get it timed, hit join que, and fingers crossed! If you are successful, it will show you a boarding group number. As time passes your MDE will display the boarding group numbers and an estimated ETA. Things can go faster or slower than expected so it’s good to be a little flexible. Once your boarding group is called you have an hour window to get to the ride and get in line!
If you are a guest staying off Disney property you may try and join at park open. Perhaps you are unsuccessful at joining at 7am, don’t worry there is another round later in the day. Don’t feel like taking the chance of a virtual que? You also have the option to purchase an individual lighting lane. Meaning you pay extra to make sure you ride it. I had absolutely no problems get a boarding group. My guess is unless it’s an absurdly busy day it should be fairly easy to join the virtual que.
Finally, the Ride!
Wahoo! Our boarding group was called and it’s time to ride! I have been so excited! After scanning our magic bands, we enter the building and within a few steps you enter a large walking que. Look up at the sealing you find a large screen displaying space and other fun adventures all themed to the Guardians movies and story. It is quite breathtaking.
As we make our way through the windy pathway, we eventually come to some fun things to look at and watch as we make our way further into the line. There are outfits from the characters, different memorabilia, and more. Having everything to look at made the time seem to move a bit quicker. None the less the line moved pretty fast.
Soon we are escorted into a large room. As we are walking into a holding room a giant screen turns on and we begin learning the story of ride. You will see some familiar famous faces as they set everything up for us. It’s pretty funny and entertaining. When the story has ended, the doors open we enter the second part of the que and soon you will see the ride! You can feel the excitement building.
My mom and I were placed in row two! So fun! If you’re really interested to see what the ride is like there are plenty of YouTube videos out there. But let me tell you, watching and riding are two different things.
Holy cow! This is such a fantastic ride. It lives up to the hype. It’s backwards launching. There are things to see every direction, the music adds a layer of fun and the track is on another level. I laughed and screamed the entire time. If you love rollercoasters this is for you! There are no loops, no upside downs or anything of that nature. Might be the best rollercoaster at Disney, in my opinion!
The Cons
As much as this ride has been hyped up there might be a thing or two that may be a turn off for some people. If you are prone to motion sickness this might not be a ride you want to experience. Right before we rode Guardians we were on Ratatouille. Also, another ride that could trigger some motion sickness for people. Unfortunately riding Ratatouille started to give my mom a headache. She was brave and rode Guardians! But to her demise riding both of those in a row gave her a headache for a few hours.
She did take some motion sickness meds prior to the rides, and she said it did help. She also said she enjoyed the ride aside from that. I have heard from people that have motion sickness that they are fine, and others are not. So, if that is something you want to risk, it maybe something to consider.
The only minor con I can think of is having the ETA change for your ride. I found it is helpful to be flexible when you have a virtual que. When I joined the que for Guardians at 7am it gave me an estimated 3 hour wait time. By the time we were in the park and in line for another ride it dropped down to an hour and a half. Then I checked again, and it was down to under an hour. Thankfully we were able to ride ratatouille and not get out of line.
Since it was our first time using the virtual que, I wanted to make sure we used it correctly and didn’t miss it. We had plenty of time, once your boarding number is called you have an hour to get there and scan in. Again, flexibility is key. We were prepared to get out of line for one to make another but thankfully it worked out in our case. I know some people out there are planners and like to stick to a schedule so it could be an issue for some if times change or change often.
Overall
If you want a fun fast paced rollercoaster this, is it! I will ride this any chance I get. It was so good. I recommend this to everyone. There were even little kids riding and loving it! I cannot wait to go back and experience it again.
Have you ever taken a spin on Guardians of the Galaxy? If you have, what did you think? Would you go again? Was it to intense or not enough? I wonder if our travel agent Erica has been on yet. If you need any help planning your trip, make sure to reach out to her and she can help! You can find Erica here!
It was so much fun finally taking a ride on Guardians of the Galaxy!
