How to Build Anticipation for Your Trip

Hiya Pals!

In the event that you have a trip planned, there are lots of ways to build anticipation for your trip. Part of the fun is helping your family get excited for the magic that’s in store. We’ll discuss some options to help everyone get into the Disney spirit.

First, I suggest making a countdown. I have a countdown app on my phone that shows me how many more days until I’m surrounded in the magic. Additionally, we often make a paper chain countdown. This can be simple or elaborate, but we usually go the simple route. While making the chain we usually play some Disney music, from the parks or movies. You can find lots of music options online. There are also block type countdown calendars that you can make or buy. All of these options are a great way to know how many days until your magic begins.

In addition to countdowns, you can also start to purchase clothing for your trip. We almost always have at least one new shirt per trip. We order most of our Disney shirts from a local boutique called Dolce Bleu Boutique. You can find them here she has all kinds of Disney things you can purchase. Sometimes, we get all matchy-matchy, but not always! You do what makes you and your family happy. It always builds anticipation when you have new clothes to pack for your trip!

Next, you and your family can brush up on all those Disney movies! We usually have a Disney movie marathon and watch movies we haven’t seen in a while. It’s really fun to watch Beauty and the Beast if you’re having dinner at Be Our Guest or watch Cinderella if you plan on dinning at Cinderella’s Royal Table. You can cater your movies to the things you’ll see and do in Disney!

Furthermore, you can start shopping for little trinkets to take with you or give to your kids as gifts. One option we’ve done in the past is open small gifts in the car on the way there. You can find all kinds of Disney toys and trinkets at lots of different places, but I love to look for stuff at Dollar Tree, Target and Amazon. These can be action figures, a special dress or clothing item or ears to wear around the parks. Often, we’ll leave a gift (for our son) on the first night from Tinkerbell. We give things like a new Disney toothbrush, washcloth, or candy-mostly from Dollar Tree. Some families also find it helpful to pre-buy souvenirs, so they don’t go too crazy in the parks.

Breaking in your walking shoes can also build some excitement. Before my son’s first visit we would put him in the stroller so he could practice sleeping on the go, and my husband and I would walk around town imagining where things were located in Disney. It helps to know the lay of the land and is exciting to be moving towards your magical trip.

Picking out Magic Bands can get everyone excited too! We usually look through the new designs and sometimes select a new one to wear in the parks. Coloring Disney pictures can also be a fun way to get everyone into the magical spirit. No matter what you choose to do, make sure you and your family are geared up and ready for the fun that will inevitably ensue in the parks!
